She gained a broad range of clinical experience working with children, families and adults in the Passamaquoddy communities at Indian Township and Pleasant Point reservations. Treatment modalities of special interest are: play therapy, bibliotherapy and sandtray therapy. Inspired by her children, the Montessori Method and the work of Jerome Berryman, Dr. Duffy combined her expertise in sandtray, play therapy and bibliotherapy to create the Moving Stories Method, kits and Wonder Room.
Dr. Duffy is a past board member of the Maine Association for Play Therapy and served on the faculty of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars teaching workshops on a systemic approach to play therapy. She has provided supervision to graduate and undergraduate students through the University of Maine in Machias and Orono. Dr. Duffy is a member of the American Psychological Association, Maine Psychological Association, Association for Play Therapy, Play Therapy International and the Maine Play Therapy Association. She received two awards from CSPP for contribution to cross cultural psychology research and for contribution to healthy and productive communities. Inspired by the work of Robert Coles, MD, her dissertation was an ethnographic study (story) of resiliency and Hmong children growing up in Fresno, CA.
