Program Description

Beautiful Perry, Maine
This is an experientially-based workshop for individuals who have completed Moving Stories Level 1 training. It will provide an in-depth study of how to listen to, join and document the play in the Moving Stories Method. The Moving Stories Method is an intermodal expressive arts method that integrates –story, sandtray and play therapy.
Therapeutic stories are told with the aid of a Moving Stories kit and a sandtray as the “theater”. Moving Stories kits are baskets or decorated boxes that contain miniatures/symbols that are used to tell the story. Individual clients, families, groups or classes from pre-school age to old age are then invited to reflect upon the stories followed by an invitation to respond in their own creative way. The method can be utilized by a wide range of theoretical orientations that permit some directive interaction on the part of the therapist.
The workshop is designed to be both instructive and personally meaningful.
Participants
This workshop is designed for the helping professional (e.g. School Counselor, Social Worker, Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor) with some experience or interest in play therapy and sandtray therapy. The Moving Stories Method is particularly useful for those working with children and in school systems. Skills will be applicable to individual, family, group and classroom contexts.
Objectives
- Participants will experience the power of play, sandtray and story through their own experience with the Moving Stories Method.
- Participants will learn how to use Moving Stories within a range of directive and nondirective play therapy approaches.
- Participants will learn how to join and document both expressive and silent responses to a Moving Story.
- Participants will practice selecting, presenting, joining, and documenting a Moving Story within a play therapy theory.
