Unlike the other animals, Douglas Squirrel is unable to escape a fire moving through a Sequoia forest.  He finds refuge in “The Giant”, an old Sequoia with many scars, thick bark, and a hole in it’s “belly”. Douglas Squirrel watches the destruction of the forest, and finally the return of the other animals and new life made possible from the fire.
