Description:
Play Therapy for traumatized children in rural schools can be amplified through a systemic approach that includes consultation with teachers and utilizing nature. This workshop will provide school consultation tools and ideas for utilizing nature in school-based play therapy for traumatized children.
Objectives:
- Participants will learn a systemic approach to school-based Play Therapy for traumatized children.
- Participants will learn how to use the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study as a starting point for trauma-informed play therapy consultation with staff in the school system.
- Participants will learn about the Transforming Rural Experience in Education (TREE Model), which combines the ACEs Childhood Experiences Study, the neurobiology of toxic stress, and resilience research to create school environments where ALL students can learn and grow.
- Participants will learn ways to use nature in school-based play therapy to address the effects of trauma in the body, mind, heart and spirit of traumatized children.
