June 25th and 26th, 2020
The Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center
Saco, Maine
This is a wonderful beginning of summer opportunity to relax and learn at Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center with 32 acres of beach and trails abutting Ferry State Park. This workshop will provide time to delve into children’s stories, nature, and creative and playful time with each other while learning practical tools for integrating social-emotional learning into the classroom.
Workshop Description
The Moving Stories Method provides a rich relationship-based, multi-sensory approach to teach social-emotional learning in the school setting. It is particularly helpful for children experiencing stress or trauma or with developmental delays. Through the power of story and play, students engage more enthusiastically in learning, enhance emotional awareness and regulation, increase positive feelings about school, improve relationships and self-concept, and find creative ways to find their voice and express their feelings. This is an experiential and playful workshop.
Participants will:
- Discuss how traumatic experiences (ACE’s) impact learning.
- Identify the brain science behind a playful multi-sensory and relationship-based approach to social-emotional learning.
- Experience the 8 steps in the Moving Stories Method using the story “Finding Diamonds”.
- Integrate Social-Emotional lessons into the classroom and home.
- Practice telling a Moving Story in a sandtray.
- Identify 3 resources for stories.
